History

Shannon enjoys a unique place in aviation history. 1939 saw the flying boats of the first transatlantic scheduled air route touch down in the Shannon estuary. In 1945 we welcomed the first scheduled transatlantic landplane services, and in 2015 we’re celebrating their 70th anniversary. Innovation is in our DNA: the world’s first duty free shop was in Shannon, and the first Customs Free Zone. Shannon was home for the pioneers of aircraft leasing, GPA, and the birthplace of the modern airfinance industry.

Shannon Group was established in September 2014, and at its heart is the International Aviation Services Centre (IASC). We’re building a globally relevant aerospace cluster, on the foundation of Shannon’s and Ireland’s strengths in leasing, MRO, corporate aviation, logistics, and training.

We combine the backing of the Irish state with a commercial focus and a pragmatic, can-do attitude. We’re an ideal location for aerospace firms, established or emerging. Shannon offers access to the European market, skilled English-speaking staff, a highly competitive cost base, and a long heritage of aerospace pioneers. Over 50 aerospace companies, employing over 1700 staff, already call Shannon home.

We’ve been innovating for 70 years. Come and join us.
